The Lady Vanishes
The 1979 version. This was a remake of a Hitchcock classic, and was trashed by critics.
I think it was pretty good. It’s not that dissimilar to other Hitchcock mainstream ventures like North by Northwest.
It concerns mostly Elliott Gould and Cybill Shepard running around in a train, trash talking one another while solving a conspiracy involving Nazis in 1939. She mocks Hitler in a bar, but they are after Miss Marple, who is some sort of spy private teacher.
Cybill is a mix between Ginger Rogers and Emmanuelle Seigner (switch the names around depending on your age). She’s very much underused on Taxi Driver, of course Scorsese can’t write woman characters.
This is my place for ramblings about sequences of images that exploit the human visual limitation know as persistence of vision.
