Gunpowder Milkshake
John Wick meets Stranger Things, with Karen Gillian, with added killer escorting a child, like all modern fiction. This has much less action than John Wick, it’s more focused on the female side, makes it more balanced.
I like the message, the plot, the cast, it’s the fake nostalgia that annoys me the most. A British cast filming in Babelsberg (this is all part of the main credits), but they meet in an American-style diner, filled with aluminium tables and chairs. It’s like visiting London and Berlin and eating exclusively at McDonald’s.
It’s really a sorority fighting both The Firm and some gangster dudes, and it’s all dudes as the bad guys. The inner sorority is a power trio of Angela freaking Bassett, Carla Gugino and Michelle Yeoh. With Lena Heady as D’Artagnan. Add a dash of maternal abandonment for a change.
