Mortal Kombat
The 2021 version. Yet another version of the same silly plot, with better actors and modern effects. Ironically, they must have reused a lot of the game itself, the latter versions are identical.
This is technically an origin story, a pilot episode of a Marvel-like universe of individual stories and the like, but who gives a shot about fighting game plots? Unless they bring in Van Damme to play Johnny Cage, for maximum meta-commentary.
The glorified cameo by Hiroyuki Sanada makes me want to watch the Twilight Samurai films again.
Musically, there’s a distinct lack of Traci Lords and Praga Khan, replaced by a random dubstep version, yuck! I guess that’s the modern version of 90’s house music.
