Holmes & Watson
American comedies, how cute. This is their middle-brow offerings, not just pure slapstick, puke, and fart jokes, but nothing subversive and actually funny either. A big talented cast in service of crap.
This is not even a real Holmes story like that one with Ben Kingsley and Michael Caine, they both are idiots or savant genius, depending on the scene. The plot follows a classic structure, Sherlock is less like Holmes and John is less Watson.
Besides the classic references to the books that everyone already knows, they copied the Guy Ritchie slow motion crap, but the rest is an usual American script: references to brands, to Trump and Europe, and plenty of historical jokes.
You can get a better version of this by watching the Aardman film about Darwin and Queen Victoria, that has better jokes and everything.
They even get real actors doing nothing. John C. Reilly is a Will Ferrell regular, but Kelly “No Country for Old Men” MacDonald and Rebecca Hall? Crikey.
This is my place for ramblings about sequences of images that exploit the human visual limitation know as persistence of vision.
