La Maison

The frenchiest of French films, it’s almost a cliché. Putain, soft cocks, you name it.

A female writer needs a subject for her next book, so she dares her friend-with-benefits to visit a brothel together. They chicken out at the last second, but the idea remains. She decides to go undercover into a “nunnery” to properly investigate that underworld, but her first establishment does not result well, and she is almost raped.

She tries on a second one that works much better and finds a colourful cast of characters that should make for a great book. After the honeymoon period, she realises the work is quite hard to reconcile with her private life, but turning tricks did not make her extremely liberal with sex and relationships, it was the other way around.

Her friend-with-benefits, another writer, is actually married and she knows it. Even so, she does not want to stay with him for good, she likes to Netflix and chill.

Her sister is horrified with the whole ordeal, she does not accept that is the only way to research the subject. When the “research” continues indefinitely, she even snaps, but ultimately it’s a personal choice. No one can say she is being coerced.

With all this emotional turmoil, she finds a guy on Tinder and they even have sex and all, and she likes that very much, it’s different when no money is involved. He is shocked when she comes clean to him, but does not reject her immediately. It’s complex.

I cannot really understand the finale, it seems she got her boyfriend to accept her work, called her mother to discuss everything, and even continued her profitable enterprise. But this is not explicit.

There are so many sex scenes, it turns into background noise. So many flaccid penises, of all shapes, ages, sizes. I’m not calling it a sausage fest, it seems only the girls are having fun.

I only noticed now the poster is a direct copy from Emmanuelle. Fitting.
