Roadhouse
Nhe, this is bad like Roadhouse, but in different ways. Too squeaky clean, too John Wick, too much CGI. With proper UFC backing and that idiot Conor McGregor always showing his face, yuck.
Florida turns into Little Portugal, Joaquim de Almeida plays the dirty cop named Big Dick, father to the doctor love interest that doesn’t show up as often. Jessica Williams as the bar owner is also weird, she keeps it not wild.
It’s not a remake, more like reusing the names and the big themes for a similar plot. The original was itself a Western “remake”, so they have a kid whose shop is burned down mention it explicitly. And instead of a mobster collecting protection money, it’s some drug dealer with a Trumpian real estate deal.
The marketing sells this as “edgier”, but this is a lie, there’s basically no nudity outside jokey Conor McGregor butt. The fight scenes are not Wickian enough, there are massive amount of editing trickery, some are closer to a slideshow of short videos of people getting punched in the face. There are no big shots where the camera moves little, and the characters do the work.
Apparently, there are two competing sequels. I’m with the Bourne guy, fuck Bezos.
