Veronica Guerin
What the fuck is this? Jerry Bruckheimer producing a low key biopic about a journalist being killed by some mobster goons, directed by Joel Schumacher. This is completely out of the box for those two guys.
The film starts with a bang, with really nasty stuff, maybe a bit over the top even. I don’t think it too far from the truth, but it seems exaggerated nonetheless. People wading in used needles are the right scenes for Saw, not something I would expect from a nominally realistic depiction of the world.
Cate Blanchett is not Irish, but it’s hard to tell, she does a great job. There’s also a bit part by Colin Farrell, which unsuccessfully tries to bed the titular character.
All in all, a resounding meh. I give it 7/used needles.
This is my place for ramblings about sequences of images that exploit the human visual limitation know as persistence of vision.
