This is a remake from a French film, apparently a big deal back then, but this is too Hoolywood-esque to be worth it. The best use for this film is being a source for embarrassing material on the J.J. Abrams.
Kathy Bates is truly amazing. I think Fargo was partly inspired by this kind of hyper-competent policewoman who digs for the truth.
The final 15 minutes come out of the blue and retroactive ruin everything. Everyone goes out of character, as if the other 100 minutes were worthless and people were expecting a twist ending. Humbug.
