The Grudge
The single-word American remake of a scarier Japanese horror film. Tasteful usage of fade to black all through the film softens the blow for the hardest hitting stuff.
Unknowable entity attacks some people, leading to the President of the USA to kill himself, Buffy to meekly shiver with fear, and a Japanese girl to become a jawless ghoul. The source of this entity is murder and infanticide.
This a bog standard horror film, oppressive, ma non troppo.
