Get Out


This is scary as fuck. The protagonist is always on edge, even on the quiet bits. The final police car is the linchpin of the whole thing, and it falls into the wrong side of the tracks. The non-supernatural elements are scary enough, but I guess there’s Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner for that?

The comedic element takes some of the edge off a very sharp and direct satire on the American society. I think it would work even better as a pure drama, shooing the clowns soon for good: if this is a cautionary tale, it should go the whole hog and note the worst case.

The script is truly inspired. I love the little details on the house tour, the appropriation of AAVE, the quip about meeting other cultures, about Obama, the whole thing.
