Underworld: Awakening
Underworld: Epilepsy. Nearly all florescent light is broken, and flickers like hell.
The masquerade is off, humans are hunting down Wolf and Bat like it’s Kristallnacht all over again. The remnants remain hidden as they can.
Selene and the hybrid are getting out of Dodge when a underwater silverlight grenade knocks them both out. For 12 years.
They are frozen and taken to some lab, where Stephen Rea is taking over the world. Selene is Subject 2, and Subject 1 sets her free.
Figuring its the hybrid, she tracks him down but it’s actually her daughter, children of that weird sex scene in the shipping container the last time. So our hero is now a single mother too, but Theo James clearly wants to multiply that.
The Vampire clans have gone under, laying low, where an exasperated Charles Dance berates his son to chill the fuck down. The Lycans did a big push for Lebensraum a while back and got dropkicked into sewer dwelling.
But wait, the lab is actually a Lycan front! They can turn regular Lycans into Tyrannolupus Rex, and cure the silver allergy. Too bad they get so big, they don’t fit into regular buildings.
The girl is also an hybrid, but from birth, which means she is even stronger, at least potentially. Charles Dance gives her away when Lycans wreck his manor and kill his sob, but Selene saw Matrix: Reloaded and resurrects Theo James with a heart massage.
There’s loads of side characters left undeveloped, and yet this is tightly cut into 90 minutes of fight scenes. Crediting 6 screenwriters (including J. Michael Straczynski), you know this is the synthesis of about 4 or 5 scripts. Could be much worse.
This is my place for ramblings about sequences of images that exploit the human visual limitation know as persistence of vision.
