Independence Day: Ressurgence
Shit, for different reasons. This is a bog-standard modern sci-fi middle of the road affair. Instead of US Navy propaganda, it has product placement and Chinese money bankrolling the whole thing.
Come the fuck on, a US press secretary talks with her American boyfriend using QQ. At least using Jeeps is on-brand. They even have full scenes in Mandarin with subtitles.
Suddenly, the aliens send a bigger ship. Half the size of the Earth, with its own gravity (but only when it’s visible).
Charlotte Gainsborough does nothing, Jeff Goldblum collects a paycheck by playing the same character from Jurassic Park, and there’s even the black sheep of the Hemsworth family. William Fichtner is always the guy in a position of authority that gets the shaft (ever since Contact), he’s almost a young Sean Bean.
