Damn, Vincent Cassel can talk passable Brazilian Portuguese, with a strong accent. Not a bit part either, a large role. Not sure how much is ADR, but he definitively dubbed himself. This is actually a Bildungsroman for the real protagonist, the older daughter. Quite a reactionary tale.
The protagonist might be the teenage girl, but revolves around her family. The other kids don’t even matter, only that the parents are distant and cold. They are on the brink of divorce, and our protagonist is determined to find out the reason.
But first, she needs to live her life. The family is on their beach house, in some kind of secluded small community for aristos. There’s a lot of perverts around the place, fully grown men hitting on 14 years old girls in public.
She selects someone from her own age bracket, but they are both dumb teenagers, so she dumps him in a brutal way, after showing some interest. He just finds another girl to bang, did not let heartbreak take over him.
Their last “date” is spying on her father fucking a younger girl in her home, which leads him to start his engines, while our protagonist dumps cold water on that idea and dumps him right away. Nasty, nasty!
She reveals this affair to her mother, and immediately grows mentally, by having her worldview shattered. Her mother is the one seriously dating another men, they will even move in together. After the first drunken blackout with her kids around, the Mother just leaves to meet her fuckbuddy, which enrages the husband.
For unknown reasons, since her age-range kids have girlfriends of their own, she goes to the bar and lets herself be seduced by the seedy barista, and they fuck in his boat, away from prickly sightings. She apparently really wanted to try it with her own age range..
It seems these story beats are popular in arthouse circles, there’s Adoration and One Wild Moment (that one with Vincent Cassel too).
