Bleak as fuck, I didn’t know Spielberg could go this dark. Temple of Doom is not bleak, just racist and angry. This has actual relentless despair.
Just like any Spielberg flick, daddy issues are the core of the emotional issues. They are solved when dad lets the boy go to the army, and he lives! The girl remains with him, so he can prove to the richie rich he’s got what it takes. A low cosmopolitrometer rating, should have replaced Tom Cruise with Ben Affleck for the Bostonian bingo.
