The Zone of Interest

It’s really too subtle, a very small peak into banal lives spent murdering people at an industrial scale. This is better than Oppenheimer in almost every way.

The subtleness is the point, of course. “Show, don’t tell”, pushed to the limit. Includes that initial atonal minutes of blackness (like Tár), the mark of über-hipster filmmaking.

I was not aware this was filmed Big Brother style, just a bunch of hidden cameras and stuff happening. Kudos to the actresses that must have cleaned so much of the house in realtime.

The sound design really makes the film, keeping the subtleness theme. The atonal choral jolts seem to have no rhyme nor reason, those are not telegraphed in any way. Just like the rest of the film, seems like a random slice of life, there is not exactly a “plot” per-se.

This is my place for ramblings about sequences of images that exploit the human visual limitation know as persistence of vision.
