The Magnificent Seven
A mediocre remake of a mediocre remake of Seven Samurai. With such a large budget and a good cast, not a great film comes out of it. Nothing magnificent about this.
I’m guessing Denzel Washington is the leader, and Chris Pratt is Toshiro Mifune? What about the other guy that kills with a single stroke, is that the knife dude? Did he have a lifelong partner, I thought the point was that he was a loner? There’s even an good guy Comanche, and a bad guy from another tribe, in California of all places.
It’s telling they wanted to tell another story, but either got spooked by the studio, or were constrained by the format. Oblique references to “The War of Northern Aggression”, Ethan Hawke is a former rebel spec ops dude, they also mention the Pinkertons by another name. Just a big list of all the common Hollywood sins.
This is my place for ramblings about sequences of images that exploit the human visual limitation know as persistence of vision.
