2 Guns
This is a low brow action flick that includes a couple of high brow scenes, so they can cut two trailers, I guess. Sicario with Marky Mark cannot be taken seriously, he’s like Arnie, the film warps to his personality, not the other way around.
The rest of the cast is great, if slightly underused.
- Denzel signed up just for the hats and the outrageous facial hair, and so they have a couple dramatic scenes with gravitas.
- Edward James Olmos is the cartel boss (but they deflate his magnificence with cheap unfunny jokes). He doesn’t make a single origami!
- Not Megan Markle (Paula Patton from Mission: Impossible – Fallout, I know, but her face is really similar) is the DEA agent who is corrupt and commits suicide by cartel, ironically. The idiots don’t even put all the dramatic scenes in the end, there are still jokes after that. Ruins both parts.
- Hudson is the cartoonishly evil CIA Man, fucking-A man. They tried to rip off Sicario, but Josh Brolin did not get his hands dirty, personally, he just greased the wheels. Not a DOD adviser…
Dozens of US government agencies are “protecting” the border with stupid sting operations, it was bound to happen an op where everyone was a mole for different branches.
Our protagonists are both undercover, but they don’t know about each other. Their bosses do, the cartel boss knows, it seems to be common knowledge for everyone but the viewer. Why send an undercover cop to take down a cartel if they are already kicking back 7% your way?
Marky Mark is a knuckle-dragging moron, but when he meets his handler or the admiral, he code-switches to a proper soldier.
Denzel is more suave, and just fucks her handler. It seems post-nut clarity is only for men, she’s a CIA mole but never spits it out.
They go into a bank to steal a couple millions but steal 50 million instead. That’s CIA black budget money to waste.
This is my place for ramblings about sequences of images that exploit the human visual limitation know as persistence of vision.
