Barbie
This is way too meta to be taken “seriously”. Some extreme howlers, like multiple “fascist!” accusations, the president of Barbieland saying “motherfucker” with Mattel’s logo in her mouth, and so many Kens wanting to beat each other off. Better than Oppenheimer.
The soundtrack is basically the only place they could splurge, and they did. Credits music by Billie Eilish, Tame Impala, Sam Smith, one of Charli XCX’s less intense songs, and a remix of Barbie Girl by Nicky Minaj. That remix is a let down, almost unused, why go with WAP, it would fit thematically.
It’s still a 90 minutes long commercial for freaking toys, no matter how many winks at the camera they do (Margot Robbie crying over being ugly, get the fuck out of here!). There are also some big speeches to the camera too, absolutely deserving.
