Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
I can’t believe how much Inception just downright stole from this. Not just the entire plot, but also smaller details. I could excuse Adam Sandler, but Nolan?
Of course, one thing Nolan did not steal was a large amount of technical trickery that makes it very much a dream-state. Ridiculous editing tricks:
- The one with the reversed street, the goddamn letters were reversed too, I think it was mirrored completely (Sugar Water)!
- The one in the bed that shifts seamlessly between both sides.
- The scenes where shit is disappearing.
- The scene in the bookstore, where the labels keep getting blank.
- The one in the house where he’s holding the Chinese food container and moving in the background, while the TV in the foreground is matching it.
- Raining in the apartment.
- The scene in the childhood home with the massive table and the hippie dress.
Just endless trickery, this is much more complex that the biggest Marvel CGI-fest.
It should have won an Oscar for cinematography instead.
