Novas Narrativas de Caça
Episode List
Uuu, an anthology of separate shorts, without any overlap other than involving descendants of African people.
S01
Moamba
Guess Who is Coming to Dinner and Get Out, but as comedy.
The political points don’t let the comedy soar to the heights it should, there’s some funny shit in here.
It’s a short film though.
Recursos Humanos
Soylent Green is people, in particular fast food soul-crushing jobs. Burger Fool meets The Thing.
There’s an actual deeper plot concerning Uncle Tom-like internal struggles, resolved by applying the Sweeney Todd method, without singing.
Once You Go Black
A brutal self takedown, a young girl, neurotic for good reasons. Realistic romcoms, indeed.
Limbo
A suburban Bildungsroman switches in a dime into a freaking George Floyd charge.
The leads are the best actors of the bunch, the white dude that tries and fails to speak the lingo is truly amazing, brother. Yo yo, check it!
Sobrevivente
A tech demo for small VFX, with an excuse futuristic plot: a small elite lives a segregated life while stoking race wars in a dilapidated wasteland. How topical.
The plot is actually former elites get shafted and escape to the wastelands. They infiltrate the Nazis/Revolutionary groups, bloodlines are important, the whole shtick. There is even space for a framing device, the kid being told the story is actually the messiah all along.
Undeu
This seems clichéd, but a black lead project need a parental abandonment story, how we are not our own parents, we can be better. Hell yeah, YES WE CAN!
This is a reverse Pearl, the long shots are front loaded, and there’s only a perfunctory action sequence towards the end. Robbing a mall is not the answer.
Cidé
The political semi-auto biography, about a young woman discovering her roots in Guinea-Bissau. This is actually filmed there, and as it should, features Amílcar Cabral prominently.
This is my place for ramblings about sequences of images that exploit the human visual limitation know as persistence of vision.
