Gangster Squad
Very stylish copaganda, this is part of the L.A. Confidential shared universe. It’s mostly about the characters, but there are brutal shootouts, chase sequences, and explosions. A lowbrow affair.
Sean Penn has some nice bits of dialogue early on, like “Crop of Cunt”, but then he just gets angry and angry. Seems fun for him.
The good guys have more variety:
- Josh Brolin does an action packed version of Matt from Sicario, just 60 years before. He’s got an actual wife even, not sure what she sees in him.
- Ryan Gosling doing an incredible soft voice. He turns ruthless, but keeps the voice, hilarious.
- The tech guy has a wife and kids, so he dies first, for more motivation.
- There’s a cowboy, a crack shot with a six shooter, and his manservant/lover/underling. It’s unclear what they are.
- To roundup the squad, there’s The Black Guy
Incredible how one that real gangster’s goons was actually stabbed to death by her girlfriend’s daughter. Her girlfriend’s name? Lana freaking Turner! How the hell do you leave that out of the story‽
