The Peacemaker
A terrorist wants to bomb the UN General Assembly in New York because of Serb snipers in Sarajevo killed his wife and child. But he’s a diplomat from the Republika Srpska! This is a bad action film, and a bad political thriller, rolled into one.
I’m quite confused, because in the whole Sniper Alley affair and shit (involving Limonov and other fascist admirers), the Serbs were the one sniping people in the streets‽
Anyway, the film is of the same ilk as The Siege, a pre-9/11 terrorist thriller. This one is slightly less propagandist, but that’s because there are barely any characters. They spend the whole film barking orders to underlings, even the bad guys.
Only that Bosnian(?) dude is an actual character, he really cares about his brother for example. The leads are supposed to be falling in love, but there is zero chemistry between then. What kind of stone does a woman needs as a heart to resist Clooney’s mild advances?
There’s a Russian dude very friendly with our protagonist (the guy from The International, Eastern Promises, and the like), but he dies right away, to motivate our dude to invade Russian territory by evading anti aircraft fire!
Yes, the US Army Rangers invades Russia to stop the terrorist from driving some nukes to Iran. The Russian border is extremely porous, they only deploy the dude from ER in a roadblock.
Inside the truck there’s an Harvard-educated Pakistani nuclear scientist that turns a proper ICBM into a backpack mini-nuke. The nukes were stolen from a train that was bringing them to America, under the New START MAD climbdown, in some extremely convoluted opening scene.
Ivana Trump is mentioned! Suck it, The Apprentice.
This is my place for ramblings about sequences of images that exploit the human visual limitation know as persistence of vision.
