North Country

Erin Brokovich with more English actors. I’m afraid of reading more about the case and discover they were all mistreated even more, or that the lawyers hoovered up all the money. I’ll be pissed if they made up the whole thing.

Classic labour story, about the lack of solidarity, easy capitalist wedges being driven between workers, unions dominated by men contributing to the sexism. There’s the rape sideplot too, in case Americans could think this was getting too pinko. Shoo out the socialism!

Our hero spring into action not only because she is right, but because she sees Anita Hill on TV, speaking about Clarence Thomas’ dick size, and sexual proclivities. Good thing no more Supreme Court judges were ever allowed with credible and widely know allegations of sexual harassment.

The cast is filled with familiar faces, but ironically, there’s about zero Midwesterns.

  • Charlize Theron’s typecast as a tough lady probably started here, and it never ended (Furiosa, Dark Places, In The Valley of Elah).
  • Frances McDormand does her fantastic Fargo accent, but a tougher attitude.
  • Amber Heard has a bit part as a rape victim (hohoho, how topical).
  • Woody Harrelson is from Texas or something.
  • Sean freaking Bean plays a dude from North Country across the pond.
  • Jeremy Renner was the closest he has ever been to a snowplow.
  • Michelle Monaghan is from Buoston, wrong blue collar zone.

Goddamn it, I know I should have not checked. They settled out of court, ffs!
