Project Hail Mary


A wholesome, non-cynic semi-hard sci-fi film, for the Internet-native teens. Even better than The Martian, Gosling is simply a better actor. Fist my bump.

It really is unique in the zeitgeist, a big budget scientific “propaganda”, in a good sense. The big breakthrough is staying idealist in the Internet, it’s a form of Buddhism.

It’s about as hard sci-fi as it gets, but the real fantasy is having the military of the world taking a back seat to some unelected technical bureaucrat/dictator. We already have the big COVID experience. But this does not detract from the experience, most of those things are glossed over.

They respectfully quote liberally from 2001, from the spacesuit to the light show.

The Martian has a single person, this has a single relationship, hopefully the next one will be about a society. Scientists don’t have a great track record on that…
