More Ivan Reitman bullshit, another low rent Ghostbusters. Effects driven, the “hero” is introduced flirting with an underage student (again!), explicit anti-state spiel. It was bad the first time already.
The “new” gimmick is 50s science panic, with aliens and shit. Yes, they say it’s evolution, but there are no Darwinians here, Lamarck was right. It all ends in a massive product placement, complete with a literal ad in the end.
Mulder plays Reitman itself, the serious guy, his partner is clearly Bill Murray.
Julianne Moore is the love interest that doesn’t pass the Bechdel test. Their “romance” is a primary school fling, they “arr kinda together now”, after he calls her a “frigid, stuck-up bitch” (that’s a direct quote). There’s also the American Pie dude as a shitty comic relief.
