Attack the Block

This is a small scale version of War of the Worlds or Signs, if the technical side was a Doctor Who episode. It includes pretty intense social commentary, bruv/fam.

It’s pretty ballzy to have the hero outright mug Jodie Whitaker in the first scene, including threatening her with a switchblade. They are all just kids, enthralled to some evil drug dealer dudes. The other stoners are just slobs collecting disability benefits, and trust fund kids.

All the kids come from weird and broken families. Either they live with granny, absent, or downright scary guardians. Their older sisters try to put them on the right track, but they have their problems too.

This a better film for Boyega that all Star Wars, but the other kids are also great. Even the guy that looks like Kenny from South Park.

It’s not a shallow commentary like Ali G Indahouse, but it’s no Les Misérables either. Still hilarious to see regular coppers with hi-viz vests being called “The Feds”.
