Death Wish
The Eli Roth “remake” in name only. Absolutely dogshit, like most of his films, the best parts are good actors having some fun for some seconds.
It shares barely nothing with the previous film, other that the main character is Paul Kersey. Bruce Willis at death’s door has nothing on a similarly aged Charles Bronson, he looks like he is keeling over as soon as the shots end.
Most of his scenes are sitting down, for crying out loud. What’s this, Cameron Mitchell?
If you fire a regular Glock 17 with the left hand, you don’t get a small cut in the hand, you will take a face full of ejected casings.
There’s Vincent D’Onofrio as the voice of reason (instead of the cop), the guy with the weird face from Total Recall as the cop (instead of the voice of reason), and Elizabeth Shue as the murdered mother.
Ironically for such violence porn all over the place, the actual attack on the girls is very professional, restrained, and logical. Nothing like the depraved orgy of senseless violence from the first film.
I guess Eli Roth did not want to defile this nubile youngster because she was not marring him.
As for the ideology, it’s taken out. Some shock jocks are present for colour, but it’s all personal stuff. Milton Friedman is mentioned by name, but classed as boring, so it’s just middlebrow dismissal.
This is my place for ramblings about sequences of images that exploit the human visual limitation know as persistence of vision.
