X-Men: First Class

What a difference 10 years make, 240 little months. This has everything going against it but still mildly succeeds in being entertaining and engrossing.

The cast goes above and beyond the middling script. Kevin Bacon speaks three languages, the German is not so bad, the Russian I can’t say. J-Law is super charismatic as ever, even with her skimpy outfits on. Nicholas Hoult as the nerdy dude is another staple.

The bad parts are everything else:

  • it’s a prequel, so it is railroaded in terms of plot developments
  • the freaking legacy cameos: Jackman I could accept, but Rebecca Romijn? Charles going on and on about the hair.
  • this is directed by the Kingsman dude? He must have producers telling to tone down the wacky zaniness

So Nightcrawler was actually Azazel, a literal daemon? That’s why he was always praying, as a joke? I don’t understand the continuity between this shit.
