This is a shameless SCP adaptation, without mentioning or even hinting at that mythos. A very modern creepy-pasta stretched pretty thin. If Obsession is McDonald’s, this is the greasy spoon: better, but still not good for you.
It’s not just SCP, there are so many FPV sequences, you would think you were playing a videogame, or destroying some IDF radar in South Lebanon. They don’t go full avant-garde like Hardcore Henry, and the budget us kept in check by the VHS effects. It stays strictly in the psychological horror genre, there’s not much body horror or giallo stuff. It’s no Hereditary, though.
It’s a purely self-contained story, without any reference to the real world. This is no Office Space, there is no commentary on anything. Pure unbridled escapism.
This is very much like Underwater, a Lovecraft adaptation that also doesn’t mention its source, and hooks you in by hiring real actors doing jack shit.
The 12 Years a Slave dude has literally one scene that involves rote emoting. How the actual fuck did they hire Renata “Sentimental Value” Reinsve to do nothing? I hope A24 can pay her back in real future roles.
This is my place for ramblings about sequences of images that exploit the human visual limitation know as persistence of vision.
